According to information published by Aydınlık newspaper (AKP Wanted Army to Enter Syria Three Years Ago), within the first months of the war in Syria, the AKP government had sent instructions to the Turkish Armed Forces for a military intervention into Syria and for Turkish soldiers to invade Syrian territory, and were asking for necessary preparations to be made. In addition to these actions, it has also recently come to light that a “corridor” on the Turkey-Syria border was also hungrily eyed. This corridor would stretch as far south as the city of Aleppo, and after the instructions of the Turkish government, soldiers were positioned on the border.
Relations between the neighboring states have collapsed during the war in Syria, with Ankara backing rebels trying to topple President Bashar Al Assad.
Sources reported, that “Following the instructions of the Turkish government, plans were placed by the Chief of Staff; however the commanders who made the plans and who would have to execute the plans opposed an intervention. A number of senior commanders stated that they would resign in the case of intervention. After the determined attitude of the commanders, the intervention was kept waiting, and later was cancelled entirely.”
In fact, it wasn’t surprising to hear the latest ‘leaked’ record between Head of Turkish Intelligence, Hakan Fidan, and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu discussing how to provoke a false flag incident that would justify a large military intervention in Syria. Read the full details:
In his televised speech about Syria on 10 September, Obama laid the blame for the nerve gas (Sarin) attack on the Eastern Ghouta firmly on the Syrian government, and said that any use of chemical weapons would cross the ‘red line’ he had set in 2012: ‘Assad’s government gassed to death over a thousand people,’ he said. ‘We know the Assad regime was responsible … And that is why, after careful deliberation, I determined that it is in the national security interests of the United States to respond to the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons through a targeted military strike.’ Obama was ready to launch an air strike to punish the Syrian government without even knowing (as he was talking) for sure who is behind the chemical attack in the early morning of 21 August.
In his article in the “London Review of Books”, Seymour Hersh exposes a destructive blow to Obama’s illegal war in Libya and Syria ,and provides some information indicating that Turkey was behind the chemical weapons attack in Ghouta. Hersh has used his intelligence contacts to shed light on the invisible (and illegal) supply of weapons to the so-called “Syrian rebels,” and the role of Libya and Turkey in helping this continue.
What Hersh uncovered is that Obama was forced to cancel his planned attack on Syria on Sept. 2, 2013, due to the fact that evidence existed that the chemical weapons attacks in Syria were not carried out by the Syrian government, but rather by the Syrian opposition supported by Obama himself in collaboration with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Britain’s MI6.
Hersh quotes a former intelligence official who says: ‘We now know it was a covert action planned by Erdoğan’s people to push Obama over the red line. They had to escalate to a gas attack in or near Damascus when the UN inspectors were there. The deal was to do something spectacular. Our senior military officers have been told by the DIA and other intelligence assets that the Sarin was supplied through Turkey – that it could only have gotten there with Turkish support. The Turks also provided the training in producing the Sarin and handling it.’
According to Hersh a person with close knowledge of the UN’s activity in Syria investigating the chemical attacks there told him that there was evidence linking the Syrian opposition to the first gas attack on March 19, 2013, in addition that the chemical attacks were a false flag operation to be blamed on the Syrian government to give the false impression that Syria had crossed Obama’s Red Line so that he could carry out the attack.
Hersh also said that a secret agreement was reached in early 2012 between Obama and Erdogan according to which “funding for this operation came from Turkey, as well as Saudi Arabia and Qatar; the CIA, with the support of MI6, was responsible for getting funnel weapons and ammunition from Gaddafi’s arsenals to al-Qaeda in Syria.”
Hersh reports that “Washington abruptly ended the CIA’s role in the transfer of arms from Libya after the attack on the consulate, but the rat line kept going.” ”Within weeks, as many as forty portable surface-to-air missile launchers, commonly known as manpads, were in the hands of Syrian rebels.”
