Since the beginning of 2014, the plight of the Eritrean refugees fleeing oppression and violence in their homeland has begun to be internationally recognized. The problem is so grave, and runs so deep, that often Egyptian police return escaped victims directly to their kidnappers, according to the BBC.
There is no accountability, and despite thousands of victims there have remained essentially no prosecution from relevant authorities. Only one person has been charged in Egypt, and they were merely an accomplice to the torture and kidnapping which impacts so many. Egypt should not be able to ignore this and claim that the problem has disappeared since the fall of Morsi: it has not.
